International Ambassador Joins The Ranks Of Stanford Who's Who
Charles Ntwaagae has been accepted among the prestigious ranks of Stanford Who's Who as a result of his extraordinary effort in government.
NEW YORK, NY, August 28, 2010 /Stanford Who's Who/ -- Charles Ntwaagae has been accepted among the prestigious ranks of Stanford Who's Who as a result of his outstanding record of service in the public service of Botswana. Charles has persistently displayed the passion, vision and dedication necessary to be considered among the best.
Since Botswana joined the United Nations on 17 October 1966, the Permanent Mission of Botswana has played a critical role in promoting and defending the national interests in the United Nations and its associated councils. It was through this Mission that Botswana, in spite of its strategic vulnerability compounded by hostile geopolitical circumstances in Southern Africa from the 1960s to the '90s, asserted her principles of the right of every people to self-determination.
Born in Tutume, Botswana on the 6th of May 1953, Mr. Charles Ntwaagae currently serves as Ambassador Extraordinary, Plenipotentiary and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Botswana to the United Nations. Ambassador Ntwaagae has had an illustrious public service career which spans over 30 years. He has held several positions of leadership in both the Home and Foreign Service of his country and has travelled to virtually every corner of the globe.
Ambassador Ntwaagae has over the years been involved in the design, implementation and management of numerous development initiatives and programs which have impacted positively on the lives of the citizens of Botswana. The outstanding abilities, competencies and skills which Ambassador Ntwaagae consistently exhibited as a team builder, team player, innovative and strategic thinker catapulted him to positions of responsibility and leadership throughout his professional life.
These include serving as Executive Director of the National Environment Secretariat and also as Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Botswana to the United Nations Office in Geneva, with simultaneous accreditation to the World Trade Organization (WTO), the Vienna based International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), including coverage of Geneva based UN Agencies and International Organizations as well as International Humanitarian Civil Society organizations such as the International Federation of the Red Cross and the Red Cross Crescent and the World Council of Churches.
Within the field of International Relations and Multilateral Diplomacy, Ambassador Ntwaagae has participated in a wide array of Conferences and Summits of Regional and International bodies such as the Southern African Development community (SADC), the African Union (AU), the United Nations, Commonwealth, Non Aligned Movement (NAM), Group of 77 and China, EU-ACP Summit, EU- Africa Summit, US- Africa, France- Africa Summit, and Asia- Africa Cooperation Forum, Indo- Africa cooperation forum etc.
Among the positions of responsibility he has held as the Ambassador and Permanent Representative are Chair of the Africa Group, Coordinator of the ACP Group of Ambassadors, Chairperson of the Commonwealth Developing Countries Group and the Vice President of the 65th Session of the UN General Assembly. Ambassador Ntwaagae has also served as the Permanent Secretary (CEO) of Botswana's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, overseeing the operations of the network of Botswana Diplomatic Missions abroad.
Ambassador Ntwaagae attained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Public Administration from the University of Botswana and Swaziland in 1977 and a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree with majors in International Public Affairs and Public Administration from Pennsylvania State University in 1985. In addition, he is a fellow of the Economic Development Institute (EDI) of the World Bank and IMF.
